What Would Dolly Do?

This will be my 5th year fundraising for the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation at Snoopy’s Home Ice, and this one is even more special – I will be skating for two very special people in particular.

This past year, I was deeply affected by a close relative's battle with breast cancer. After radiation and chemo, we are so thankful that she is in the clear!! One of the things my family learned through her journey is that the money raised through our ScottCARES show and Frozen 5K goes directly to cancer resource centers in Sonoma County. I never realized that all these years of participating would have such an immediate impact on those closest to me…it just made it all so much more real.

Then, last month, we lost Dolly Parton to cancer. My idol and inspiration, her music and the way she lived her life have always meant so much to me. Although we didn’t know she was on her own cancer journey at the time, she still continued to share her gift. For her 80th birthday, Dolly re-recorded her song “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” with the net proceeds going to pediatric cancer research at Vanderbilt.

This year, I’d like to beat my goal of raising $1,000 for ScottCARES…and what would Dolly do? She’d donate to this great cause!!
So this year, I’m following her lead.
