Join us for Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer ™ Lake Placid
Saturday, February 22nd, 2025 from 4-6pm
with Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton
at the
James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval at the Lake Placid Olympic Center

Cancer knows no bounds of gender, age, or race - it impacts everyone.  This year it's estimated that a little more than 1.9 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed in the US alone, and 609,360 people will die.  That's more than 1 person every minute dying because of this terrible disease.

The Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation (CARES) is proud to present Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ Lake Placid!  Proceeds from this event will support CARES' national cancer research projects and the Merrill Oncology Center Travel Fund at Adirondack Health.

Here's How You Can Get Involved!

Participate and Fundraise
1) Register for $35 to start fundraising and receive your Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer t-shirt.  We'll celebrate your efforts with items from our new recognition program!

2) Grow our community by asking your family and friends to sign up with you or donate to your page.  Post about why supporting cancer research matters to you and invite others to join you on social media!

3) Fundraise for cancer research!  Every dollar you raise supports critical cancer research through CARES and our healthcare partners at Adirondack Health

3) Celebrate with Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton on the James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval at the Lake Placid Olympic Center and skate a Frozen 5k (13 laps)!  More details are below.

Support a Participant by Donating
When you donate to a participant's fundraising goal, you are not only supporting them but providing crucial funding for cancer research.   The Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation funds cancer research across the nation and we are proud to work with our healthcare partners at Adirondack Health for the third time.

Celebrate with Us!

The Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation is dedicated to changing the future of cancer by funding advanced, innovative research that treats the cancer while sparing the patient. CARES is an established 501(c)3 and a national identity in the cancer community.  CARES, which stands for Cancer Alliance for Research, Education, and Survivorship, is creating a cancer network built upon strong partnerships with leading institutions, cancer support groups, and researchers to improve the quality of life and provide better outcomes for those living with cancer.

Adirondack Health is a collective of facilities and individuals who have provided sophisticated care to the Adirondack region of northern New York for more than 100 years. Locations include Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, Lake Placid Health and Medical Fitness Center, Keene Health Center, Saranac Lake Health Center, Tupper Lake Health Center, and St. Regis Falls Health Center. The highly trained and compassionate individuals working at these facilities provide a full range of medical and surgical services. Adirondack Health is the only full-service health system in the Adirondack Park.

The Merrill Center for Oncology Travel Fund was established in 2020 using funds raised in partnership with the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation as a result of the Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ 2020 event held in Lake Placid.  Income-eligible cancer patients may access funds to assist with travel expenses related to their treatment. Since its inception, the fund has assisted more than 20 cancer patients.

Our event takes place on the completely renovated James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval! Here you can skate circles around your friends and family on the same ice where Eric Heiden won an astounding five Olympic gold medals in 1980! The Speed Skating Oval is one of the few outdoor rinks of its kind left in the country and it sits in the heart of Lake Placid, adjacent to the Olympic Center. The facility just underwent a major revitalization, including updates to the refrigeration system, which will enable a longer and more consistent skating season.
