Our Founder Scott Hamilton, who spent most of his career upside down in the rink doing his signature backflip, has taken his platform as an Olympic Gold Medalist and used his force for good, establishing the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation (CARES) and empowering all of us to Turn Cancer Upside Down™! Launched in 2014, CARES is national 501(c)3 dedicated to changing the future of cancer by funding advanced, innovative research that treats the cancer while sparing the patient.
Thanks to our dedicated community of supporters, CARES has provided funding to like-minded charities nationwide for research, cancer patient support services and cancer patient ancillary services. CARES, which stands for Cancer Alliance for Research, Education, and Survivorship, is creating a network built on strong partnerships with leading institutions, cancer organizations, and researchers from across the nation.
Erase the Trace was conceived by Scott Williams, who is currently living with Glioblastoma Multiforme. Scott has long dreamed of biking the 444-mile Natchez Trace Parkway and is partnering with CARES to bring attention and much needed funding to Glioblastoma. Erase the Trace is named after the historic parkway, but also the trace margins left behind after Scott's surgery.
"Even with 100% removal of a glioblastoma multiforme tumor, there’s always a trace of cancer cells that remain, waiting for an opportunity to attack again. My goal is to complete the entire 444 miles of the Natchez Trace Parkway to raise money to help find the cause and cure for GBM." - Scott Williams
Anyone can join Erase the Trace! A limited number of cyclists will be able to join Scott as he completes his historic ride, but thanks to technology, you can bike along from home, too! Each individual registrant will be able to log their miles and track their progress on their personal fundraising page, which integrates with the popular cycling app Strava.
Register to Participate and Fundraise
Through individual donations and sponsorships, participants raise money on behalf of CARES through their own networks of friends, family, coworkers, local businesses, and community supporters. Erase the Trace will culminate with our ride on the Natchez Trace parkway with coming March and April.
Donate to Support Cancer Research
By donating to an Erase the Trace participant's fundraising goal, you're not only supporting them and funding innovative cancer research, you're changing the future of Glioblastoma treatment. CARES is proud to announce that a percentage of the net proceeds from Erase the Trace will benefit CARTI, where Scott Williams is currently being treated.
Celebrate with Us
Your efforts are worth celebrating! Erase the Trace will culminate with our ride on the Natchez Trace parkway in March and April, but that's not the only way to celebrate. Virtually, we'll celebrate by sharing our race bibs, progress photos, tracking our progress, and through our event page on Facebook. Check the Event Info page to learn how you can Celebrate in your community.
