Cancer affects us ALL. What's your why?

To say the last 19 months have been easy would be a lie. Covid has wreaked havoc on our world and nobody has been immune. Pair what has happened with a life changing diagnosis of cancer and the challenge to get up every day and live can be insurmountable. Not for this guy...

Meet Pat. Husband, Father, Brother, Friend, and to me the best boss I have ever had. I have been working since I was 14 years old and I can say without a doubt, without a hesitation that I have never had the honor and pleasure to work with and for someone like him. He is more than a boss, he is one of my best friends. I can tell him anything and he listens, cares, and gives the best advice! You can ask anyone who worked for him and they would all say the same. He truly cares about the people. That was what it is all about for him. Customers and employees alike. He has been there for them all.

It was in the blink of an eye that everything changed for Pat and his family. He had a massive seizure in the middle of the night which led to the diagnosis of GBM; grade 4 incurable Brain Cancer. Pat has had 2 massive brain surgeries, 50 rounds of chemo, 30 rounds of brain radiation, multiple failed clinical trials, his tumor has grown at times and shrunk at times. The entirety of his life has changed; he now spends his days recovering from treatment and fighting GBM. BUT……
Pat is still Pat. He still cares for other people and makes the world a better place. Pat has NEVER once complained, never once said why me. He eats well, works out and blows expectations out of the water. He smiles, laughs, LOVES and knows that things could be worse. He has clawed back his ability to speak, walk, and think. He is working on reading and writing, and each day presents new challenges, new setbacks and new successes. He is a miracle; he is LIVING with GBM.

We fight with Pat, We say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH; We NEED to find a cure. Let’s be like Pat and get up every day and try to make this world a better place for others. So today I skate in his honor. Doing something I love for someone who has meant so much to me and the world.
